LAMUT, Ifugao (14 September) -- Challenged by the remarkable performance and participatory leadership of students from the Ifugao Provincial Science High School (IPSHS) in Science and Math, the Parents, Teachers, and Community Association (PTCA) are appealing for advanced equipments and facilities to further enhance learning.

Schools Division Superintendent Estella Carino said in order to create more champions from this province in Science, Mathematics and English, there is a dire need for advanced technological equipments to be put in place to equip students with the necessary skills and trainings geared towards Science and Technology, and Mathematics.

Authored by the Representative of the Lone District of Ifugao Solomon Chungalao and endorsed by the Senate, Republic Act No. 9082 establishing the IPSHS in the Municipality of Lamut in Ifugao was approved by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on April 8, 2001.

Through its five years of operation enrollees have increased from 28 students to 175 and has graduated its first t batch last year.

Oliver Tobiagon, Officer-In-Charge disclosed that being the only science high school in the province, enrollees have been increasing. But with the increase in population existing realities like the need for additional physical facilities ; increase in faculty profile; and equipments like science laboratories, computers and other equipments have to be addressed.

Tobiagon said with the very limited funds provided for by the national and the Local Government Unit of Ifugao, the PTCA endorsed a letter to the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and have since then made coordination asking for any assistance.

As of press time, the PTCA and school officials are still working for possible assistance and are hopeful to benefit from DOST's increased budget for 2008. (PIA Ifugao) [top]
