BANAUE, Ifugao (14 September) -- To encourage elementary school pupils, local officials and the community create environmental values and to act on environmental issues, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) distributed 1,400 seedlings to elementary school pupils through the Youth Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) here.
Principal Lorna Haclao disclosed that the tree planting activity will be continuing with the joint efforts of the community and assistance of DENR.
She said this will be implemented to act on environmental concerns that include planting and growing of watershed areas, reinvigorating of barren lands, and growing of endemic and local tree species.
Further, she hopes that through awareness campaigns importance will be given to trees, waste management, segregation, recycling, entrepreneurship and clean up drive within and outside school premises.
The school activity solicited initiatives from parents who did repairs of classrooms and the teacher's quarters and did some general cleaning within and outside the school campus.
Haclao moves to tap more stakeholders and civic minded individuals to become part of school activities. (PIA Ifugao) [top]
