LAGAWE, Ifugao (14 September) -- To make cheaper rice supply available to consumers, Licensed National Food Authority (NFA) Rice Retailers here are reactivating their "Bigasan Ng Bayan" store that stopped selling NFA rice after facing bankruptcy about two years ago.
This was disclosed by "Bigasan Ng Bayan" Lagawe Chapter President Catalina Calingayan saying there is a need to expand outlets of cheaper rice supply to make it more available to poor consumers as required by NFA.
She said while rice retailers are given ten sacks per week, every sack is sold just as it is displayed because most consumers are now buying NFA rice at P900.00 per sack ceiling price which is far cheaper than commercial rice priced at P1,300 per sack.
She said they are also on the process of reopening their "Bigasan Ni Gloria" Store where members will have to contribute to complete the amount required to pay for the 75 sacks per week stock.
Most store owners, however are willing to contribute and become members in the Bigasan as their 10 sacks per week supply for now is just temporary.
Calingayan said at present NFA rice supply is being shared by Licensed NFA Rice Retailers, Tindahan Ni Gloria Store Owners(TNO), Outside the Market (OTM) Store Owners and the Bigasan Ng Bayan Stores. (PIA Ifugao) [top]
