LAGAWE, Ifugao (15 September) -- Some 3,872 Grade six pupils from public elementary schools here who took the recently administered National Achievement Test (NAT) by the Department of Education (DEP ED) garnered for the province rank no. 1 in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
This was disclosed by Schools Division Superintendent Estella Carino saying this is the second time since 2006 that grade six pupils here ranked first in CAR.
She said Division Officials were alarmed by the poor performance of pupils in the NAT administered in 2005 which reflects not only the poor performance of pupils but also the teachers. This she said was a challenge to teachers and administrators of Dep Ed Ifugao Division.
The result of the 2005 NAT provided Ifugao Division the information to better identify areas and instructional practices that needs attention, she added.
The outstanding performance of pupils in 2006 and 2007 NAT shows how much effort was exerted by the teachers in trying to improve in all subject areas. She gives credit to all teachers and administrators and challenge them all the more to initiate better strategies on how to be more effective to efficiently perform their duties and responsibilities as excellent educators.
Aimed to monitor the public education system and schools for public accountability, help provide information to better identify instructional practices, and to measure student's achievement and evaluate student's mastery skills, the NAT is administered every school year by the National Education Testing and Research Center (NETRC) to pupils and students.
