2007 Nat'l Literacy Week confab tackles functional literacy for all
Tacloban City (September 16) -- In connection with the annual commemoration of the Literacy Week, the National Literacy Conference will be conducted at the Grand Boulevard Hotel, Manila on September 19-21, 2007.
Organized by the Department of Education and the Literacy Coordinating Council, the theme of this year's conference is "Functional Literacy for All: To Live Long and Live Well in a Healthy Philippines."
The Conference recognizes the critical link between functional literacy and health status towards a healthy Philippines. It hopes to identify health policies and programs that address health literacy needs of the population and serve as a venue for sharing experiences among government and non-government organizations and the public in literacy skills development and health literacy efforts.
Philippine Information Agency Director General and Literacy Coordinating Council Member, Secretary Conrado A. Limcaoco, Jr., said that the conference is open to all government and non-government practitioners including those from the academe and private sector who are into the implementation of literacy or continuing education programs.
The live-in conference is on September 19, 2007 and will start at 9:00 o'clock in the morning until 8:00 o'clock in the evening. A registration fee of P5,000.00 will be charged each participant to cover expenses for meals, accommodation, workshop handouts and materials.
Meals shall be served starting lunch on September 19, 2007. Transportation and other incidental expenses of participants shall be charged to respective local agency funds.
