DepEd Region 8 tops March 2007 NAT exams

Tacloban City (September 16) -- Aside from producing the topnotcher and the ten of the top twenty in the March 2007 National Achievement Test, the Department of Education and the people of Region 8 has another reason to rejoice.

Five of the fifteen top schools divisions and ten of the thirty top schools in the country are from Region 8. These divisions and schools showed an impressive performance in the National Achievement Test given by the Department of Education to about 1.6 Grade 6 students in March 2007.

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, on September 13, also honored in Malacanang these divisions and schools.

Indeed, it is good to know that Region 8 is represented in the top 5 divisions in the three clusters.

Eastern Samar and Samar belong to the top divisions under Cluster 1 with examinees numbering to 10,001 and above. The other three are Batangas, Bataan and Cavite.

For cluster 2 with examinees of 5,000 to 10,000, Southern Leyte belongs to the top five divisions, the others being Romblon, Agusan del Norte, Butuan City and Agusan del Sur.

Ormoc City and Maasin City belong to the top five divisions under cluster 3 with examinees of 5,000 and below. Completing the top five are Digos City and Balanga City.

Meanwhile, the schools in Region 8 which belongs to the top 30 schools which scored an MPS of 80 percent and above are Ormoc City SPED Center, Gen. Macarthur Central School of Eastern Samar; Valencia Central Elementary School of Ormoc City; Tomas Oppus Central School of Southern Leyte; Dulag SPED Center of Leyte; Sindangan Elementary School of Southern Leyte; Laray Elementary School of Southern Leyte; Gaas Elementary School of Ormoc City; Tuno Elementary School of Southern Leyte and Catagbacan Elementary School of Leyte.
