Isabela solon confident SK and barangay elections will push through
ILAGAN, Isabela (September 18) -- More than a month before the holding of SK and barangay elections, the House of Representatives has passed on third and final reading its version postponing the village elections but an administration congressman here believes the SK and barangay elections will push through.
Congressman Rodito Albano (KAMPI 1st District Isabela), an administration ally says that the postponement of election is not yet final since it needs a Senate version which will have the final say as to push through with the scheduled election or move it to May 2009 as proposed by the lower legislature.
The Isabela solon said "if the senate will not find merit for the postponement, then it would be difficult for the House proposal to prosper, hence the SK and barangay elections as scheduled will go on".
Many incumbent baranagy officials prefer the postponement but the lawmaker appealed to the village chiefs to wait for the senate action on the deferment of the elections.
In a related development, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has promulgated Resolution No. 8285 which, among others, deputizes certain departments under the Executive Branch, Government-Owned and Controlled Corporations and Financial Institutions in connection with the conduct of October 29 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Election.
The COMELEC resolution mandates the Department Education, Finance, Transportation and Communication, Energy, Budget and Management, and the Philippine Postal Corporation, National Telecommunications Commission, Philippine Airlines, Civil Service Commission, Commission on Audit, Philippine Information Agency, Government Financial Institutions, and other government agencies, and other government owned-and controlled corporations to assist Commission on elections in the conduct of free, honest and orderly elections.
