Smooth turnover of Region 2 barangay properties assured
Tuguegarao City (September 18) -- The turnover of properties of barangays all over the region will be smooth. This was assured by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region 2 here.
Through "Barangay Properties, Facilities and Records Inventory Project" (BPFRIP), an inventory of properties including records will be done from the first week to the third week of October this year. As agreed upon in a meeting conducted by the DILG with partner-agencies, the results will be posted in the barangay hall and other conspicuous places and will be presented in barangay assembly. The same results and analyses will be presented to local chief executives and COA officials.
The project aims to institutionalize transparency, accountability, and responsiveness among barangays and also to safeguard government properties from misuse and loss.
The BPFRP which is under the Excellence in Local Governance Program of the DILG also aims to strengthen good governance in the grassroots through multi-sectoral participation between government and the private sector.
Experience had shown that properties were not properly and completely turned-over by outgoing officials to incoming officials, hence, the need for the implementation of the project.
The BPFRP will be jointly implemented by local governments in all levels, DILG field offices, local government leagues and federations, and selected national government agencies. The private sector will also be a partner to make the conduct of the inventory more credible.
The DILG implemented the project in 2002 and 2005. (PIA Cagayan) [top]
