Search for Pinoy Boccia Athlete opens with 4th ASEAN ParaGames September 20

Quezon City (19 September) -- The Philippine Sports Association for the Differently-Abled (PhilSpADA), in partnership with the National Council for the Welfare of Disabled Persons (NCWDP), the Philippine Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine (PARM), the Cerebral Palsy Association of the Philippines (CPAP) and other agencies, will hold a BOCCIA competition on Thursday at the Philsport Arena.

The competition opens Thursday, 20 September, 1-5 pm, at Philsports Complex (ULTRA), Pasig City.

Boccia, a ball tossing game, is a sport for athletes with a disability and designed for persons with cerebral palsy and other locomotor disabilities affecting motor skill. Players must throw colored leather balls as close as they can to a white target ball. Points are earned based on the closeness or the distance between the players' colored leather balls and the white target ball.

The team or player with the highest points at the end of the game wins. At least 50 players are expected to participate in the competition. Winners will represent the country in the forthcoming ASEAN ParaGames in Bangkok, Thailand.

The Boccia Competition is one of the activities set for the observance of the Cerebral Palsy Awareness and Protection Week which started last Sunday (September 16).

Sports writers and reporters are encouraged to watch the games. (PIA) [top]
