Oro mayor gives health insurance for 500 families

Cagayan de Oro City (19 September) -- CITY Mayor Constantino G. Jaraula today distributed health insurance cards to some 500 indigent families in Barangay Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro, as they celebrate their 14th Barangay Day.

In a simple program prepared by the people and officials of barangay Lumbia headed by Chairman Allan T. Angara, City Mayor Constantino G. Jaraula reiterated the city government's thrust to uplift the living condition of the people living in the city's hinterland barangays.

The distribution of the PhilHealth cards in Barangay Lumbia is part of the Health Insurance for the Indigents Program of the city government where Mayor Jaraula approved a P6-million allocation for the 10,00 indigent families all over the city who are identified as beneficiaries of the local health insurance program.

Mayor Jaraula said that with the PhilHealth cards, even poor families are afforded equal access to quality medical care in times when a member of their family is confined in the hospital.

He added that the city government recognized the importance of health among local residents as a true barometer of progress in the city.

Aside from the health insurance for poor families, Mayor Jaraula also turned over to Barangay Lumbia a P1.5-million multi-purpose covered court and a P10,000 financial assistance for its Botika Sa Barangay.

Mayor Jaraula also revealed the city government's plan to develop the 12 hinterland barangays in the southwestern part of the city which included Lumbia, Pagalungan, Pigsag-an, Tuburan, Taglimao, Tagpangi, Tignapoloan, Tumpagon, Dansolihon, Besigan, Bayanga, Mambuaya as the city's food basket.

Mayor Jaraula said that with the unprecedented growth that Cagayan de Oro is experiencing, all other sub-urban barangays in the city will be developed into commercial areas, thus the need to identify agricultural areas that will be developed to provide the need of the city residents for agricultural products.
