Whitewater rafting end-point amenities to be constructed soon
Cagayan de Oro City (19 September) -- IN support of the city government's promotion of Cagayan de Oro as the Adventure Capital of the Philippines because of its famous whitewater rafting, the Department of Tourism-10 and the Philippine Tourism Authority are set to start the construction of various amenities at the end-point area of the whitewater rafting course in Barangay Lumbia.
DOT-10 Regional Director Catalino Chan III said that City Mayor Constantino G. Jaraula, Vice Mayor Vicente Y. Emano, City Council committee on tourism chair Alden Bacal, City Tourism Office, and various tourism stakeholders are invited to grace the occasion on September 20, at the Dacudao properties in the said barangay.
In the 1,495 square-meter land donated by the Dacudao family, various amenities will be constructed like dressing rooms, signage, water tanks, roads and landscaping of the said area.
The P2.9-million project is expected to boost the tourism industry of the city, especially whitewater rafting, which is considered the city's major One Town One Product (OTOP) service.
The amenities are also in preparation for the 5th national Whitewater Rafting Challenge scheduled at the end of the year and would also bolster the city's bid to host the international rafting competition in the future.
The city is the only whitewater rafting destination in the country that has a year-round navigable rafting course. (Cagayan de Oro City IO/PIA-MisOrOccCam i-Net) [top]
