Oro CID sets more skills training, women empowerment programs

Cagayan de Oro City (19 September) -- IN its aim to develop more skilled residents and to empower more women in Cagayan de Oro City, the Community Improvement Division (CID) is set to conduct a series of skills training in the hinterland barangays.

Norma Sabacajan, city population program officer IV of the CID, said that the CID is organizing a skills training in barangays Mambuaya, Tignapoloan, Dansolihon and Bayanga for the graduating high school students.

The skills training is designed to provide an option for high school graduates who may not be able to proceed to college because of economic difficulty.

Sabacajan said that with the skills they will acquire from the trainings, high school graduates can already engage in productive undertakings that will help them earn income and become self-sufficient individuals as well as develop a positive attitude for work.

Among the trainings that will be offered for interested individuals in the hinterland barangays are household chores services, plumbing, electrician, refrigeration, cellphone repair, massage therapy, culinary arts, handicrafts making, and others.

Along this, the CID has scheduled a meeting with the school principals in the said barangay to assess the training needs of the students.

Skills training is one of the major thrusts of the city government under the administration of City Mayor Constantino G. Jaraula to uplift the economic condition of the people especially the unemployed.

Meanwhile, the Barangay Women Development Council continues to empower women especially in the hinterland barangays to be involved in community development.

She cited that the BWDC in Tumpagon, one of the most successful BWDCs in the city has just distributed its earnings of P41,000 to its members through their Bigasan ng Bayan project.

The project has involved the cooperation of 137 women members. (Cagayan de Oro City IO/PIA-MisOrOccCam i-Net) [top]
