Steering committee set to search Model Laoag Family for 2007

LAOAG CITY (19 September) -- The City Steering Committee is set to evaluate the 18 nominees vying for 2007 Model Family in Laoag City starting September 4 that ends September 6.

The criteria for this search includes the Self-Reliance 40% their ability in providing basic needs; Health and Sanitation under this the family must be well nourished, healthy and rarely get sick –10% ; have a decent and clean house surrounding and practice environmental sanitation- 15% and have planted trees, vegetables in their backyard-10% a total of 35 %; Values and Spirituality- The family must have practice virtues of honesty, integrity, good manners, right conduct and industry-10%; attendance to church services and active participation in community activities-10% and non-involvement in any legal activities 5%

The yearly search of model family is based on the Presidential Proclamation No. 60 that declares every fourth week of September as Family Week which aimed to strengthened family unity and relationship through the promotion of Filipino family values.

The theme of this year's celebration is "Makulay ang Buhay ng Pamilyang Matibay" and the activities that includes this search are the hanging of streamers bearing the theme, conduct of family banner parade, conduct of forum or conference on the family, conduct of livelihood trainings, conduct of essay writing, photo or talent contest, Conduct of family Day Program, Set-up photo exhibit and Organize motorcade.

The city government through City Mayor Michael V. Fariñas is known to be very supportive with this program.

Winners would be awarded with plaque of recognition and cash prizes of P10,000 to the 1st place P8,000 –2nd place and P5,000 for the 3rd place and certificate of recognition would also be given to all non-winners.

City Popcom Officer Felicitas Santiago said that cash prizes comes from the city government and the plague of recognition and certificate of participations from the Sangguniang Panlungsod and City Mayors Office.

This program is being implemented in cooperation and in coordination with different government agencies and non-government organizations like the City Mayor's Office Community Affairs Office, City Population Office, City Social Welfare and Development Office, City Civil Registrar's Office, City Department of Education; City Department of Interior and Local Government, City Health Office, Philippine Information Agency ; Association of Barangay Captains, Zonta Club, Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for the religious sects (PIA Laoag) [top]
