Mayor vows more tourism dev't in Oro

Cagayan de Oro City (20 September) -- IN support to the flourishing tourism industry of the region, the city government of Cagayan de Oro is pushing for more tourism facilities and amenities developments.

City Mayor Constantino G. Jaraula made this pronouncement as he opened the annual Tourism Week celebration yesterday, September 18, at the SM City.

Mayor Jaraula considered tourism as a great equalizer to development and pointed out that Cagayan de Oro would like to match the city's tourism potentials with concrete development project that will support the city's existing tourism assets.

He cited the continuous effort of Cagayan de Oro Hotel and Restaurant Association (COHARA) to promote the city through the Kumbira, the Food Processors Association of Northern Mindanao for their proposed Pasalubong Center and the rest of the tourism stakeholders for their concerted effort to promote Cagayan de Oro as the best destination in the country.

With the effort of the private sector, Mayor Jaraula said that the city government is doing its part in implementing infrastructure projects such as the establishment of a river boulevard from Barangay 1 down to Consolacion area; a city tower center at the back of the Amphitheater, a walk bridge which will connect Barangays 6 and Carmen and the development of a Marina in barangay Bonbon for yachting.

Mayor Jaraula said that with the implementation of a new traffic system, the clearing of sidewalks and the on-going effort along efficient garbage collection, more tourists will be lured to visit Cagayan de Oro.

Meanwhile, Department of Tourism-10 Regional Director Catalino Chan III expressed his gratitude to Mayor Jaraula for the support extended to the tourism industry.

The one-week celebration will showcase Cagayan de Oro, as well as other towns and provinces of Northern Mindanao to the visitors.

The celebration, which is graced by the different stakeholders of tourism industry, focused on the theme, "Tourism Opens Doors to Women." (Cagayan de Oro City IO/PIA-MisOrOccCam i-Net) [top]
