Feature: Cebuana Lhuillier's 6-month feeding program for kids

Davao City (20 September) -- City Health Officer Dr. Josephine Villafuerte, concurrent Nutrition action officer said Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte is amenable on the "Ang Galing Mo, Bata! Day Care Feeding project" of the Cebuana Lhuillier pawnshop in adopting two home-based sites in feeding the kids to initially run for six (6) months every Monday to Friday.

In an official letter addressed to the city government, Cebuana Lhuillier pawnshop regional manager Irvin S. Castillo stated that their Chief Executive Officer Jean Henri Lhuillier has made it as part of their business brand service to support activities that will benefit the Filipino children by embarking on a bigger mission to reach out to Filipino youth throughout the country and help in anyway in nurturing their total wellbeing.

Thus born, "Ang Galing Mo, Bata!", the Cebuana Lhuiller's nurturing program designed to help address specific issues confronting today's children.

Castillo stated in his letter that they have coordinated their project with the assistance Ms. Marilyn Agonia of the City Social Services and Development Office in identifying a Day Care center that they can adopt and help nourish. They also coordinated their efforts with the CHO, Nutrition division head Ms. Venus Millana and Barangay Captain Amilbangsa Manding for the project implementation.

The CSSDO through Mrs. Eleonor Unson has referred home-based sites in Barangay 23-C of their Early Childhood Care & Development. Barangay Captain Amil Manding.

The initial target was to launch the project on the 3rd week of September but due to some changes, said project will officially be launched on October, after signing of the memorandum of agreement with the city government.

Cebuana Lhuillier's nurturing program includes youth development through sports, youth campaigns on environment, values-formation and education among others. For as long as there is a Filipino child who continues to struggle to overcome the various negative elements that threaten to overtake him and destroy his hop for survival, there is a reason for us to act, said Castillo.

The "Ang Galing mo, Bata!" project is part of the President's call for non-government organizations and private entities to help government in its pursuit to nourish children's welfare and help develop the youth. (PIA XI) [top]
