GSP holds 26th junior, senior cadet encampment

Dumaguete City (21 September) -- The Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP) Negros Oriental-Siquijor Council is holding its 26th Council Junior Senior Cadet Encampment from September 20-23, 2007 at the Camp Lily I. Gamo, Sibulan.
The theme for this year's encampment is "Girl Scouts Lead the Change."
Local Council Executive Ms. Rosario Rosales said the camp kicked off on Sept. 20 at 3:00 p.m. with an opening ceremony at Camp Lily I. Gamo.
The opening ceremony was graced by Looc Brgy. Captain Seferino Gravador, Sibulan Mayor Antonio Renacia and NegOr-Siquijor Council 1st Vice President Atty. Luisa Villegas, who all gave their welcome messages.
Former Girl Scout of Silliman University High School and now proprietess of Kumon Dumaguete Center Mrs. Geralyn L. Chiu gave the inspirational message.
Rosales said the lighting of the urn was led by Dumaguete City Assistant Schools Division Superintendent OIC Licerio T. Napao with Bayawan City Assistant Schools Division Superintendent OIC Dr. Ma. Milagros C. Velez.
Provincial Schools Division Superintendent Aleli R. Abne declared the opening of the encampment.
Rosales said around 1,000 Junior and Senior Girl Scouts from Negros Oriental and Siquijor are expected to participate in the encampment.
Activities during the encampment include adventure games, arts and crafts, culinary arts and community service.
This year's camp director is Mrs. Teresita K. Albina while the Encampment Committee Chair is Dr. Violeta B. Taring.
Meanwhile, the GSP Negros Oriental-Siquijor Council was ranked outstanding during the 2006 to 2007 Annual Council Performance Appraisal.
"We were rated as outstanding out of 15 councils in the Visayas Region," said Rosales.
Rosales, as Council Executive, was likewise rated as Outstanding in the said performance appraisal covering July 11, 2006 to June 30, 2007.
The Cebu Council likewise garnered the same outstanding rating in the performance of both council and council executive. (PIA) [top]
