Cebu to host the 8th national ROTC speech contest

Cebu City (21 September) -- Cebu City will host the 8th National PA-ROTC Speech Contest on September 30, 2007 at the Center for Performing Arts, University of San Jose Recoletos (USJR), Cebu City.

The contest is spearheaded and organized by the Army Reserve Command based in Camp Reigo De Dios, Tanza, Cavite under the leadership of Bgen Luini C Mirar AFP.

According to Lt Col Romeo Ucag, Asst. Chief of Staff for CMO, 13 grand finalists from the various regional community defense groups in the country will vie for the most coveted grand final awards. The grand final winners (1st, 2nd & 3rd) will receive trophies and cash prizes and all participants will also receive plaques of appreciation.

Col Ucag added that the ROTC speech contest is the 8th year of the Philippine Army Reserve Command's advocacy for the ROTC in schools through activities that encourage them to participate and excel academically as well as enhance discipline and values on nationalism.

This year's contest theme "ROTC: Training the Youth for a Progressive Nation" will hopefully create in the youth a sense of nationhood and pride as a Filipino, Ucag said.

The speech contest is officiated by a high caliber Board of Judges in the aspect of public speaking and are rated Toastmasters International aside from being successful leaders in their respective fields of endeavors.

Lt General Alexander B Yano AFP, Commanding General, Philippine Army will grace the affair as Guest of Honor and keynote speaker. He will also be the main presentor of the awards to the winners.

Meantime, as part of the grand finalists' educational briefing and contest experience, they are scheduled to tour the historic and scenic places in Cebu City.
