Bacolod HS students join Cadiz tree-planting

Bacolod City (21 September) -- Bata National High School Supreme Student Government in Bacolod City joined Broad Initiatives for Negros Development Inc. (BIND) on a Million Trees Movement activity recently in Brgy. Celestino Villacin in Cadiz City.

Thirty students from first year to fourth year high school, BIND staff and members of ASFO (Alimatok Sustainable Farmers Association) together with the barangay officials joined the activity.

Some 1,700 seedlings of coffee, fruit trees and dipterocarp species (Nato) were planted in an area of 1.53 hectares.

The students traveled from Bacolod to Cadiz City for four hours, another 30-minute ride and 20 minute trek to the planting site.

The tree planting activity enhanced students' awareness on the importance of forest conservation and rehabilitation, and will serve as their contribution to the worsening of global warming.

The ASFO, BIND and other Peoples Organizations in the area will ensure maintenance and management of the trees planted. (PIA/cad) [top]
