Two Bicol top cops in 'hot water' after NPA attacks on cell sites

LEGAZPI CITY (21 September) -- Police Sr Sup't Balligi Agnanayon B. Tira, OIC of the Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO5) expresses disappointment over two of his PNP provincial directors, and went even further by recommending the filing of administrative charges against them for failure to preempt the bombing of Globe Cell Sites in their respective areas of responsibilities despite his earlier repeated reminders to all PNP commanders to institute adequate security measures negating NPA atrocities.

Police Sr. Sup't Joel Q. Regondola and Police Sr. Sup't Romeo Tambungui, PNP provincial directors of Sorsogon and Camarines Sur police provincial offices respectively, were ordered investigated and charged, if found out for Dereliction of Duty, after Communist rebels staged violent attacks on vital institutions ought to be well-guarded by the PNP in coordination with the AFP, thus, resulting in business losses in millions of pesos, and drastically hampering communication lines in the two provinces.

It can be recalled that last September 14, the Globe Cell Site located in Bgy. Sapngan, Bulusan, Sorsogon was attacked by 20 heavily-armed rebels, led by a certain Ka Rudy, who disarmed and hostaged the lone security guard, planted and detonated explosives, rendering the cell site non-operational. Three days later, on September 17, another Globe Cell site located at Bgy. Batang, Pamplona, Camarines Sur was burned by Communist rebels, after which, another group of armed men proceeded to the nearby Globe Cell relay station located at Delfins Compound, Bgy. Tinangguihan, Libmanan, Camarines Sur, and set it on fire.

The two provincial directors received a scolding and given a dress down from PRO5 chief for not obeying standing orders in securing vital installations in their AORs, showing laxity in security preparedness and a display of poor leadership, resulting in NPA terrorist attacks. (PRO5/PIA) [top]
