Legazpi CPOC among top performers nationwide

by MS Arguelles

LEGAZPI CITY (21 September) -- The Legazpi City Peace and Order Council (LCPOC) is among the four component cities in the country adjudged as Best City Peace and Order Council for 2005.

City Mayor Noel E. Rosal said the National Peace and Order Council (NPOC) bestowed the 2005 Best CPOC Component City Category Award to the cities of Escalante bagging first place; Tuguegarao, 2nd place; Puerto Princesa, 3rd place; and Legazpi, 4th place.

Rosal said the NPOC as a gesture recognizes the value of giving due recognition and appreciation to the extraordinary and meritorious achievements of various POC at the regional, provincial, city, municipal and barangay levels.

The NPOC, chaired by Secretary of the Interior and Local Government had initiated a yearly grant of awards for model or outstanding POC at all levels of government.

The yearly award aims to strengthen the POCs at all levels and ensure a more enhanced involvement of the public and private sectors in the attainment of peace and order, said Rosal, CPOC chair.

Rosal cited the members of the Legazpi CPOC for their dedication and involvement in pursuing peace and order activities which resulted to Legazpi receiving recognition for two consecutive years (2004 and 2005) the Best POC award.

The awarding ceremonies will be held Friday, September 21, in Malacanang with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo giving the honor awards in the forms of Plaque of Recognition and cash assistance. (PIA Albay) [top]
