Surgeon assumes post as new city hospital chief

Cagayan de Oro City (21 September) -- THE J.R. Borja General City Hospital has a new hospital chief.

Dr. Dures Fe Escarro-Tagayuna took her oath of office before City Mayor Constantino G. Jaraula in a simple ceremony at the City Mayor's Office, last week and witnessed by a few department heads that include Dr. Jerrie Calingasan, city health officer and out-going city hospital administrator.

As Dr. Tagayuna assumed her new responsibility as hospital administrator of the city government-run hospital, Mayor Jaraula hoped that she will support the intentions of the city government to provide efficient medical services especially to the underprivileged sector of the city.

Mayor Jaraula is confident that with Dr. Tagayuna's sterling record as a public physician, she can effectively handle the operations of the city hospital.

Prior to her appoint as administrator of the city hospital, Dr. Tagayuna served as the chair of such departments and committees of the Northern Mindanao Medical Center as the Department of Surgery, Tumor Board, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, Operating Room Management Committee and the Bids and Awards Committee.

Her membership at the NMMC includes the hospital finance committee, medical credentials committee, hospital selection and promotion board, transfusion committee.

A lieutenant colonel (reserved) of the 604th Medical Service battalion of the Philippine Army, Dr. Tagayuna is also a visiting consultant to such hospitals as the Cagayan de Oro Polymedic General Hospital, Capitol University Medical City, Cagayan de Oro Medical Center, Madonna and Child Hospital, Maria Reyna Hospital, Maternity Hospital, German Doctors Hospital and the Mindanao Sanitarium and Hospital as well as the Mercy Hospital of Iligan City.

The new city hospital chief graduated cum laude at the University of Santo Tomas and has had numerous fellowship trainings in the country and in the US.
