Army troops encounter NPAs in Cagayan
Camp Melchor F dela Cruz, Upi, Gamu, Isabela (22 September) -- Army troops from the 17th Infantry Battalion, under its Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. Jacinto R. Bareng, while conducting combat clearing operation encountered some 20 NPA communist terrorists in Barangay Bangatan, Gattaran, Cagayan at about 05:20 in the morning of September 19, 2007.
Lt. Col. Bareng dispatched a platoon of his troops led by 2Lt. Ryan A. Ricablanca early before dawn to conduct combat clearing operations after receiving an alarming report from the residents in the said area that a group of NPAs was seen moving along the peripheries of their village the night before.
The troops searched to clear the area and chanced upon the said NPA group along Barangay Bangatan. Fire fight ensued for at least 20 minutes, afterwhich the NPAs quickly withdrew. No one was hurt among the government troops.
Maj. Gen. Melchor J. Dilodilo, the Commanding General of the 5th Infantry Division, Philippine Army, commended the troops for successfully thwarting away the enemy from the said village, putting the villagers away from harm.
