"Bahandi 2007" showcases best of Eastern Visayas products

Tacloban City (September 24) -- Once again, the Bahandi 2007 Regional Trade Fair scheduled on October 10-14, 2007 will showcase the best of Eastern Visayas products which are mostly newly developed, distinct of the region and treasured through the time. It is an array of the latest, newest, and the best to come from the islands of Leyte, Samar and Biliran from our micro, small and medium producers.

This was learned from Department of Trade & Industry (DTI), region 8 Information Officer Designate Lemuel R. Montes. According to him, The Bahandi 2007 Trade Fair will be held at the Mega Hall 3, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City.

The Trade Fair, it was bared, is spearheaded by DTI through its Regional Director Cynthia R. Nierras in coordination with Bahandi Producers Association of Eastern Visayas, Peace and Equity Foundation, and the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions, otherwise known as CITEM.

To date, the total number of confirmed exhibitors to participate in the Trade Fair is already 72. Said Fair will have a special showcase of One Town, One Product or OTOP and Investment Booths.

According to DTI, the target market for the Bahandi are the exporters, traders, and institutional buyers; foreign and local merchandisers; and the walk-in clients.

Items available at the Trade Fair are processed food, gifts, toys and house wares, fashion accessories, shell craft, furnishings, organic products, and loom woven fabrics like sinamay and raffla.

In preparation for the said Trade Fair, the activities spearheaded by DTI and its partners were Product Development, and Exhibitors Advisory Course on: How to Participate in Trade Fairs; Costing and Pricing; and How to Negotiate with Buyers.

It was further bared that the Bahandi 2007 exhibitors are divided as follows: 26 for Leyte, 5 for Southern Leyte, 6 for Biliran, 17 for Samar, 9 for Eastern Samar, and also 9 for Northern Samar.

Meanwhile, Bahandi which is the local dialect's word for "treasure", initially started small in 1989 until gradually it began attracting more exhibitors. According to reports from DTI, by CY 1999 Bahandi Fair had already 79 exhibitors and garnered a total sales of P27,931,817 and was considered as a very successful program. (PIA-8) [top]
