Roxas City is always as strong as its people, says city mayor

by A. Lumaque

Roxas City (24 September) -- Roxas City Mayor Vicente Bermejo has acknowledged the contribution of Alay Lakad Foundation Inc. (ALFI) – Roxas City Chapter in building an empowered and productive citizens in the community.

This was conveyed by Bermejo in his message during a simple program of this year's Alay Lakad celebration last September 21 with the theme "Lakad Bayan Para sa Kaunlaran."

"The nobility of the foundation's objectives is a manifestation of its sincerity to improve the living conditions of its beneficiaries and make them productive members of our community," Bermejo said.

ALFI Roxas City Chapter has helped hundreds of out-of-school youth (OSY) through livelihood projects, trainings and scholarship grants since 1991.

"These projects are merely materializations of the precept that a city is always as strong as its people," Bermejo stressed.

The actual walk has generated about P106,991.50 in cash donations pitched in by approximately 11,500 Capiceños who joined the walk towards the public plaza here.

ALFI Roxas City Chapter President and City Veterinarian Dr. Roberto Dante Corros said that the participants contribution will be channeled to various projects that will benefit the OSYs.

"I look forward that you come again next year to help OSY," Corros said, who has been the foundation's chapter president in the last seven years.

The foundation is also planning to establish a training center and other income generating projects that will serve as extra source of income that will augment the yearly proceeds of the actual walk. (PIA) [top]
