Antique assured of stable supply of basic food items for Christmas season

by EA Abasquez

San Jose, Antique (25 September) -- The Department of Agriculture (DA) here has echoed the assurance of a stable supply of rice, vegetables, chicken and other basic food items this Christmas season, despite the prolonged dry spell that recently hit Luzon.

Provincial Veterinarian Romeo Magdato pointed out that abundant supply of products on poultry and livestock continue to prevail in the markets.

Magdato noted that there is a high demand for native chickens, due to its delicious taste and suits the dietary requirements of some consumers, the Provincial Veterinarian explained.

The PROVET office has likewise embarked on advocacy and information campaign for people to engage in poultry and livestock production, in support to hunger mitigation program, the Provincial Veterinarian said.

"We continue to put in place a variety of measures to help ensure enough stocks of rice, chicken, meat, vegetables and other basic foodstuff at affordable prices on family tables between now and the yearend," Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap said.

This year's implementation of duck raising and salted-eggs Technology-Demonstration Project for Agrarian Reform Communities in Barbaza, Antique would boost food supply in the locality, Magdato added. (PIA) [top]
