Tagalog News: Turnover ng 4 geothermal plant pangungunahan ng Pangulo sa Leyte

Manila (25 September) -- Nakatakdang pangunahan ni Pangulong Gloria Macapagal Arroyo ang pag turn-over ng apat (4) na geothermal plants sa Philippine National Oil Company–Energy Development Corporation (PNOC-EDC) sa Leyte ngayong araw (Sept. 25).

Ang apat na facilities na kinabibilangan ng Mahanagdong A at B Topping Cycle Plants, Tongonan Topping Cycle Plant, at Malitbog Bottoming Cycle Plant ay may kabuuuang energy capacity na 51 megawatts (MW).

Matagal ng itinataguyod ng Pangulo ang pagpapaunlad ng malinis na alternative energy sources gaya ng geothermal power kung saan tutugon upang bawasan ang dependence ng bansa sa mga imported crude oil mula sa ibang bahagi ng mundo.

Dagdag ni Pangulong Arroyo, tutulong din ang paggamit ng geothermal power upang bawasan ang nakakasirang gas emission na dahilan ng climate change.

Kasalukuyan, ang bansang Pilipinas ay kinikilalang 2nd largest producer ng geothermal energy at pumapangalawa sa bansang Estados Unidos. (ajph/PIA 12) [top]
