PGMA's Green RP Agenda: Environmental stewardship and Economic Growth altogether

Tacloban City (September 26) -- President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, during her visit to Ormoc City in Leyte on September 25 said that the Philippines offer excellent opportunities in a range of sectors for investment particularly mining, technology, various forms tourism including medical and eco-tourism, infrastructure, business process and biofuels and energy.

However, the President deeply believes that the government must both sustain the country's natural environment and grow its economy at the same time.

This, she said, is the reason for developing and proposing her Green Philippines agenda which puts emphasis on a sustainable economic model that puts together basic economic opportunity and the concern for the environment.

The Philippines has good working relationships with some of the world's leading environmental organizations such as the World Wildlife Fund, Conservation International and others who help the government truly make the Green Philippines a reality, the President enthusiastically informed.

President Arroyo expressed pride that the Green Philippines initiative to create a sustainable economic model that allows for growth, job creation and environmental stewardship.

The President said that in too many nations, developing and developed, the environment was sacrificed and altered because of economic of growth. She said that Philippine government believes otherwise.

"We believe that we have a unique opportunity to get it right from day 1 to introduce new industries that are clean and profitable. This ranges from sustainable ventures to ecotourism, of course there many, many opportunities here," the President enthused. (PIA 8) [top]
