Isabela officials propose construction of dam, hydro power plant
SAN MARIANO, Isabela (September 26) -- The provincial government has proposed to the national government the construction of a dam and a Hydro Electric Power project in this town to increase additional crop production and will generate additional power for the government.
The proposed project is now under study by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) and the provincial government has tapped a project coordinator who will study further the possible irrigation and power generation benefit for Isabelinos.
Congressman Edwin Uy (2nd District), a LAKAS leader in Isabela, said that the project would add and will prevent power crises and brown outs which was experienced in 1990's in the country.
Congressman Uy also said that they have consulted the National Irrigation Administration-region 02 for irrigation part – the use of water which will flow down the dam which in turn could be used for irrigation of rice lands that could raise rice harvest in the area and nearby towns.
Uy said that the project would benefit Isabelinos in terms of higher rice production and for the national government for additional power source which will prevent power shortage in the future. (PIA Isabela) [top]
