Business sector supports gov't programs to pump-prime economy

By Rose Palacio

Davao City (26 September) -- The business sector supports government's "mighty programs" to pump-prime the economy and deliver social relief, investment and jobs, as well as affordable staple food, housing, public works, health, and education.

Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCCI) president Atty. Doming Duerme said that after former President Joseph Estrada's verdict, the business industry has been stabilized and there are no more speculations na magkakaroon ng gulo, he said in an interview with the PIA (PIA).

"What we want now is for the economic gains to be felt in the grassroot level, because this will be meaningless if the poor could not receive their rightful share of the dividends of growth," said Atty. Duerme.

The Arroyo administration has continuously announced our economic gains, August surplus while local currency has maintained its strong performance and the strength of the seasonal increase in the remittances of OFWs including the social reforms pursued by President Macapagal-Arroyo.

During the year, the President has ordered the release of billions of pesos to fund various projects of the government to address hunger and unemployment with the "speed of light".

Funds would finance pro-poor programs such as education, housing, food, health, and public works.

"The President has declared to pursue her fight against poverty, hunger, and unemployment and be able to move forward but all of these programs should be felt by the poor", he said.

"We in the business sector would join hands in the great national effort to win the grace of economic excellence because we know that this goal will ultimately benefit the Filipino people," Atty. Duerme added. (PIA) [top]
