Capiz hymn now in YouTube

by A. Lumaque

Roxas City (26 September) -- The province's hymn could now be heard worldwide after it has been uploaded to the YouTube site for reference of Capiceņos and interested individuals who want to know and listen to the melody of the song.

The uploaded hymn is approximately 3 minutes in length with a corresponding related video in its lyrics produced by the Capiz Geographical Information System (GIS).

"The hymn entitled "O, Capiz" was composed by Charmaine O. Guartero, a secondary music teacher of Filamer Christian College here, for a songwriting competition last year. It was chosen from a field of 25 entries composed by Capiceņos and individuals based in the province," said GIS staff Stephen Acepcion, who uploaded the video.

The song was officially launched and played during the launching last June 25 at the Provincial Capitol here.

However, it was first introduced to the public in 2006 during the awarding ceremony for winners of the search and later performed at the charter anniversary celebration of the province before it was arranged and recorded with a full band accompaniment for its official version.

The provincial launching of the official hymn signaled the official adoption of the song and its compulsory use in local programs and ceremonies.

Annette C. Alagban, Education Supervisor of the Schools Division of Capiz and Capiz Hymn project coordinator, said the compact disc and cassette tape copies of the hymn are being distributed for free to local government units (LGUs) and schools, among others, in the province. (PIA) [top]
