2 NPAs surrender with firearms to Army in Isabela
Camp Melchor F dela Cruz, Upi, Gamu, Isabela (26 September) -- A father and his son (who is a minor), both members of the Nueva Ecija Provincial Committee of the CPP/NPA, voluntarily surrendered with their firearms at the Headquarters of the 77th Infantry Battalion (Cadre) at about 11:00AM yesterday, September 25.
Adrian Melecio a.k.a. Badong who is 37 years of age, married is a squad leader from Platoon Bravo, Front-1, NEPCOM of the NPA surrendered with his M14 rifle with magazines and ammo. He voluntarily surrendered together with his son (whose name is withheld to protect his identity) who is also a member of his squad and is conspicuously a minor at 15 years old. His son surrendered a caliber .22 rifle.
The father and son expressed their intentions to surrender to the military intelligence personnel in the area after getting an opportunity to leave their group as soon as they descended from their hideouts in the mountains.
Adrian revealed that he became restless and disgruntled with the kilusan (movement) after his commanders forced him to make his son a member of their group since they are having a hard time recruiting for members. He further said that the organization did not help them in any way to recover from hunger but instead they are even dragging other people poverty towards poverty, disrupting them from advancing by collecting revolutionary tax.
Adrian and his son exposed several information about the CPP/NPA modus operandi, which are of high intelligence value considering Adrian's key position in the organization. Their revelations will greatly aid in tracking the enemy movements in the coming days.
Maj. Gen. Melchor J. Dilodilo was impressed with the courage of Adrian surrender and return to the folds of the law, yearning for what he thinks is the best for the future of his son. (5ID-PArmy) [top]
