Some drugstores in Region 8 to receive Quality Seal Awards

Tacloban City ((26 September) - Relative to DOH celebration of "Generics Awareness Month" this September, a number of drugstores in Region 8 will receive special awards from the Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFD) for complying to their initiated rules and regulations, and specifically adhering to Generics Act of 1988.
According to DOH-EV Information Officer Designate Marissa Nicolasora, the awardees from Tacloban are: Mercury Drug, Burgos Branch; and Rose Pharmacy, Inc. at P. Zamora and Salazar Sts.;l while awardees from Calbayog are: Mercury Drug Calbayog, Magsaysay Branch; Jeka Pharma & General Merchandise; and Shiela Marie Pharmacy. From Catbalogan, the two awardees are CIDNE's Pharmacy and Bench Drugstore.
These drugstores will be receiving their awards at BFD's 7th Annual Awarding of Quality Seal to Drugstores all over the Philippines and this will be held on October 13, 2007 at the Terranova Garden, New Buswang Kalibo, Aklan.
Republic Act No. 6675 otherwise known as the Generics Act of 1988 was issued in order to promote, require and ensure the production of an adequate supply, distribution, use and acceptance of drugs and medicines identified by their generic name.
It is stated in said Act that it is the policy of the State to promote, encourage and require the use of generic terminology in the importation, manufacture, distribution, marketing, advertising and promotion, prescription and dispensing of drugs.
For their part, DOH-EV through the efforts of their Regional Director Teogenes F. Baluma, will continue promoting the use of Generics most specifically in the prescription, promotion and in dispensing of drugs. (PIA-8) [top]
