BIR calls on taxpayers to attend tax amnesty law roadshow
Tacloban City (September 26) -- The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Regional Director Estrella V. Martinez is inviting the taxpayers to participate in the Tax Amnesty Law Roadshow which will be conducted on Friday, September 28, 2007 at the Tacloban City Convention Center starting at 8:00 o'clock in the morning.
Director Martinez said that the Roadshow is being conducted with the timely enactment and the subsequent implementation of Republic Act 9480 known as the Tax Amnesty Law of 2007.
This is also in support of the Bureau's dynamic efforts to boost revenue collections, specifically to achieve its P765.8 Billion revenue targets for 2007, Director Martinez added.
No less than Representative Danilo E. Suarez, the House of Representatives' Chairman of the Oversight Committee, and main proponent of the Tax Amnesty Law, will be the keynote speaker during the Roadshow.
With him are several top officials from the BIR National Office who will act as resource persons and who will expound on the merits of the tax amnesty scheme.
All the taxpayers are called to participate in the said Roadshow activities, Director Martinez stressed. The Bureau of Internal Revenue officials are ready to assist all those who intend to avail of the tax amnesty privileges to make their availment easier and more convenient.
The Tax Amnesty Law is one of the fiscal reform measures to help put the government's fiscal consolidation program right on track. It enable the Bureau of Internal Revenue collect the much-needed revenues as well as update its taxpayer base, Miss Paulina Buitizon, Revenue Officer I said.
As strategic move to ensure maximum taxpayer awareness, to encourage them to avail of this rare opportunity and enable them to have a clean slate on their outstanding tax liabilities, the Bureau of Internal Revenue in cooperation with the Department of Finance, has scheduled a series of Regional Roadshows on Tax Amnesty Law, the implementation of which started on September 6, 2007.
