Region 8 KALAHI convergence group conducts anti-poverty forum
Tacloban City (September 26) -- The Regional KALAHI Convergence Group will conduct an anti-poverty forum on October 17- 18, 2007 at Ritz Tower de Leyte in Tacloban City, Presidential Assistant for Eastern Visayas Victor Domingo announced.
This is in fulfillment of the Regional KALAHI Convergence Group's mandate to coordinate the preparation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of regional poverty alleviation plans and investment programs, Secretary Domingo said.
The Anti-poverty Forum hopes to create awareness among government institutions and partners in the private sector on the existing poverty situation in the Region.
Secretary Domingo added that the Forum will provide a venue for consultation and convergence of efforts between and among the regional or national offices, the local government units, the private and the basic sectors.
Moreover, the Forum seeks to determine areas for improvement and areas where convergence is badly needed along the previous and current implementation of anti-poverty reduction programs and projects. From there the Forum will seek to identify and adopt convergent solutions and remedies to these problematic areas.
The Forum also seeks to identify and adopt other interventions necessary to remove implementation bottlenecks and successful interventions which may be replicated in other areas of the Region.
Finally, through the Anti-poverty Forum, the Regional KALAHI Convergence Group aims to formulate a Regional Poverty Reduction Agenda that will serve as a reference for the regional/national offices in fine-tuning their respective anti-poverty reduction efforts and providing inputs for the updating of the regional development plan.
Secretary Domingo enjoins those invited, to attend because their participation will contribute to the success of said Anti-Poverty Forum. (PIA 8) [top]
