Search for next Deans of UP Mindanao colleges begins

Davao City (26 September) -- The search for the next deans for two colleges in UP-Mindanao has begun as the terms of the current deans of the College of Science and Mathematics (CSM), Dr. Antonio R. Obsioma, and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS), Dr. Antonio G. Moran, will expire on December 9 of this year. Two committees have been constituted by UP-Mindanao Chancellor Gilda C. Rivero to receive and process nominations for the deanship.

The nomination is open to persons not necessarily connected with UP-Mindanao at present, who possess the following minimum qualifications: Commitment to academic freedom and the values and ideals of the University; Distinction or outstanding academic credentials in the nominee's chosen field of expertise, which should be along the disciplines or fields of the respective colleges; a Filipino citizen; with leadership qualities and administrative or managerial capability; with a willingness to serve; and considers resource generation as an important function of the position.

Nominations may be submitted by the following individuals, sectors or groups: Personnel (faculty or non-faculty) of CHSS or CSM; Students and alumni; Others from outside the unit; or an interested candidate. The nominators (individuals or groups) should submit a signed letter containing the justification for the nomination and a summary of the nominee's curriculum vitae not exceeding 3 pages. The nominee should submit: a letter indicating his/her acceptance of the nomination and willingness to serve; and his / her flagship projects for the college.

Deadlines for the nominations are on October 3 (Wednesday), 5:00 pm for the CHSS deanship, and October 5 (Friday), 5:00 p.m. for the CSM deanship. The documents should be submitted to either of the two Search Committees at UP Mindanao, Mintal, Tugbok District or through their respective chairpersons: Erwin E. Protacio (for the CSM deanship), Chair of the Search Committee for the CSM Dean, or through his e-mail: eeprotacio@upmin.edu.ph; or Prof. Ruth U.
