by PS Mabaquiao
San Jose, Antique (26 September) -- Dances and songs will fill the air this October as children from different schools in the province will conduct folk festival in celebration of the Children's month, said Juliana Cepe, Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator.
"It is important that we provide opportunities for children to express their views and opinions on issues affecting them through creative presentation anchored on the province' cultural context. Local artists have organized series of children's workshops on dance, choral and song writing and drama in preparation for the event, said Cepe.
Proclamation No. 267 mandates the celebration of National Children's Month every October in recognition of the Filipino children as the most valuable asset of the nation. This year's theme "Karapatan Nasa'yo, Isigaw sa buong Mundo!" aptly emphasized the right of children to express their views and opinions on matters that affect them, the source said.
Among the activities slated for the month-long celebration are Medical Mission for children in barangays Linaban, and Igpanulong of Hamtic and Sibalom respectively. These barangays are recipients of projects under the Country Program for Children. Highlighting the celebration is the presentation of the State of the Children's Report by Governor Salvacion Z. Perez.
The Provincial Child Friendly Movement Team urged all child rights duty bearers, the local officials, parents, educators and communities to support the 15th National children's month celebration by conducting information dissemination activities and organizing community programs to make people aware of the celebration. Outreach activities for children include medical mission and the conduct of trainings/seminars to enhance child participation.
The local councils for the protection of children both at the municipal and barangay levels which are the frontliners in child rights advocacy are likewise encouraged to come up with similar activities to highlight the children's month celebration. (PIA) [top]
