6th MICT Congress, 1st BIMP-EAGA ICT Confab set in Davao

Butuan City (27 September) -- The City of Davao will play host for this year's annual gathering of key ICT players and stakeholders of Mindanao which promises to elevate ICT in a different level with the synergy of the EAGA countries.

The event, dubbed "6th Mindanao Information Communications Technology (MICT) Congress and the 1st Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Information And Communications Technology (ICT) Conference" will be held in Davao City on October 23-27, 2007 at the NCCC Exhibition Center.

Said twin event is convened by the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc., Mindanao Business Council and the ICT Davao, Inc., in cooperation with the BIMP-EAGA Business Council, BIMP-EAGA Working Group on ICT, Commission on ICT, Mindanao Economic Development Council, Department of Trade and Industry, City Government of Davao, among others.

With the theme "ICT Beyond Borders: People. Infrastructure. Innovation", the event aims to pursue the initiatives of the previous congresses, promote Mindanao as a focal part of the Philippine Cyberservices Corridor for contact services, medical transcription and business process outsourcing and provide a venue in identifying areas for greater collaboration among ICT stakeholders from both the private and public sectors of Mindanao including the BIMP-EAGA. The activities of the forthcoming event include plenary and technical sessions, Business Matching, ICT exhibit, Digital Photography, PESO Business Plan Competition, and the 1st Mindanao Bloggers Summit.

As a further note, the National Computer Center-Field Operations Office will be managing a special 1.5-hour track on eGovernance Best Practices on the morning of October 24. The track will cover egovernance ICT initiatives for the country and region, the status and updates of the eLGU program, and sharings of experiences by selected LGU mayors.

Accelerating the growth of the ICT industry essentially forms part of the government's thrust of harnessing ICT to enhance the country's participation in the rapidly growing global economy. Everyone is encouraged to participate in this year's Congress as this would greatly help in the development of ICT in Mindanao and the BIMP region.
