Negros Occidental observes National Statistics Month
Negros Occidental (27 September) -- The provincial government of Negros Occidental through its Provincial Planning and Development Office is celebrating its 18th National Statistics Month.
The month-long observance will be launched on October 1 at 7:45 a.m. at the Provincial Capitol Park and Lagoon with an opening program. Department of Interior and Local Government Provincial Director Ma. Maredith Joy Madayag will grace the ceremony as guest speaker.
Other activities include the annual Provincial Statistical Quiz on October 11, which will be participated by students from the different schools in Negros Occidental. Winners of the Provincial Statistical Quiz will represent the province in the Regional Statistical Quiz in Iloilo City on the third week of the month.
A province-wide national statistical information campaign will also be conducted by the PPDO to the different institutions to increase the students' awareness on statistics and the medium development goals of the province. This year's theme is "Statistics and Action: A Road to a Better Life Through the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)".
According to the PPDO, the National Statistical Month is being celebrated to give due importance to statistics as vital in planning and decision making of the province and the nation as a whole.
Other partners in the celebration are the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Bureau of Agricultural Statistics, Department of Interior and Local Government and the National Statistics Office. (PIA/EAD) [top]
