Mass immunization on measles for kids

By Rose B. Palacio

Davao City (27 September) -- Department of Health (DOH) Center for Health Development XI Director Paulyn Jean Rosell-Ubial has urged mothers and guardians for their kids and young wards to be vaccinated regardless of immunization status.

A nationwide mass MEASLES immunization for all children ages nine months to 48 months or up to four years old will be given starting October 15 until November 15, 2007.

DOH assistant regional director Dr. Salvador Estrera said any child older than 4 years old who did not receive measles vaccination in the past shall also be vaccinated.

There will be health teams who will conduct door-to-door services in some areas, while fixed sites like health centers, barangay health stations, Day Care centers and other shall continue.

This nationwide campaign is known as "Knock-Out Tigdas 2007" aimed at reducing the number or pool of children at risk of getting measles; achieve at least 95% measles immunization coverage of all children born between October 15, 2003 to January 15,2007; and ultimately eliminate measles circulation in all communities by year 2008.

The DOH, leading this nationwide campaign is in partnership with LGUs, DILG, DSWD, DepED, private sectors, NGOs and other health stakeholders.

Together with this campaign will be the services of the Garantisadong Pambata Round 2 such as the provision of Vitamin A capsules for kids and deworming tablets for 12 months to 71 months children. (PIA) [top]
