Capiz hosts crucial preparations for statistics month

ROXAS CITY (27 September) -- The Regional Statistical Coordination Committee (RSCC) firmed up its preparations for the celebration of National Statistics Month in October during the body's 2 nd general assembly meeting hosted recently by the Provincial Government of Capiz.

In his message, host Gov. Victor Tanco, Sr. said statistics and numbers are important and valuable to different sectors of society.

Likewise, the chief provincial executive pointed out that they are powerful tools that can strengthen the capability of the government including local government units to pursue development goals.

Statistics has been considered by President Arroyo as a valuable tool of development as it can help officials and planners make sound decisions especially in the implementation of economic reforms and hunger mitigation and poverty alleviation efforts for the benefit of the people as spelled out in the Millennium Development Goals (MDG).

National Statistics Office (NSO) Regional Director and RSCC co-chair Engr. Norman Julag-ay also underscored the value of statistics in development and next month's celebration reflects it.

The theme of this year's statistical month celebration is "Statistics and Action: A Road to a Better Life Through the Millennium Development Goals."

The committee was set to finalize the preparations for the October celebration at its third and final meeting slated September 27 at the West Visayas State University (WVSU) campus in Pototan, Iloilo. (PIA) [top]
