Military heroes to receive special financial assistance from PGMA
Davao City (27 September) -- In the long line tradition of recognizing our Filipino soldier's heroism, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, AFP Commander-in-Chief, awards the AFP casualties and gives financial assistance to beneficiaries in a ceremony to be held at the Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao (NFEM) Consolidated Mess Hall, Camp Panacan on Thursday, September 27, 2007. The award will be given by MGEN ARTURO B CARILLO AFP (RET), Presidential Adviser for Military Affairs, and LTGEN CARDOZO M LUNA AFP, Commander of the AFP's Eastern Mindanao Command.
The military awardees for the President's Special Financial Assistance, who were wounded in various encounters with insurgents and terrorist that almost cost their lives include 1LT SALIHUN B ARASID, TSg Jose T Rivas, SSg Jacob B Hapon, Pfc Renato S Dindin, Pfc Joseph B Laugan, Pfc Ali A Atalad, Pfc Akasa T Kurangking, Pfc Ali B Villaren, Pfc Allan L Valracion, Pfc Leodegario L Opema, Pfc Juwak D Baddun, Pfc Ernesto O Barbacal, Pfc Ely B Pontilan, Pfc Jralou C Idnay, Pfc Abdulbasar D Alih and Pfc Renie Joy T Villanueva.
Relatives of soldiers who were killed in action will also receive the President's Special Financial Assistance as a way of remembering their gallantry in action and heroism. The recipients of the award are Mrs Marilou S Edana, widow of SSg Catalino M Edano who was killed in the raid of Buco Patrol Base conducted by the NPA on August 22, 2000 at Sitio Buco, Brgy Danlag, Valencia City; Mr Estanislao P Villahermosa, father of Pfc Erick C Vellihermosa who was killed during an encounter with a crime suspect last February 25, 2002; Mrs Nimfa T Vaflor, widow of Pfc Jeffregg S Vaflor who was killed in an encounter with 5 RHB members on February 21, 2006 at Brgy Gumi, Lubao Pampanga; Mrs Nova B Muyco, widow of Cpl Archie B Muyco who was killed during an ambush launched by the NPA on November 30, 2006 at Sitio Abihao, Mararag, Marihatag, Surigao del Sur; Mrs. Rosanisa G Escubio, widow of Cpl Ruben B Escubio Jr who was killed-in-action (KIA) in an encounter with the NPA on July 5, 2006 at Brgy Lower Binoogan, Arakan, Cotobato; Mrs Elsie B Badbad, widow of Cpl Rogrigo S Badbad who was killed during an ambush perpetrated by NPA members on August 25, 2006 at Km 5, Marbon, Talacogon, Agusan del Norte; and Mr Alfredo B Barnuevo the father of 2LT RUBEN P BARNUEVO who was killed in an encounter with members of the Abu Sayaf Group on September 18, 2006 at Sitio Tanum Brgy Tugas, Patikul, Sulu.
LT GEN LUNA says that the special financial assistance that will be given may not compensate for the physical injury and grief over the death of gallant soldiers who fought against the enemies of the state but the thought of being recognized by no less than the President and Commander-in-Chief is heart warming and morale boosting.
