RPEC highlights family week celebration

BUTUAN CITY (September 28) -- Highlighting the celebration of Family Week in Caraga Region, some 62 participants composed of parents and solo, adoptive and foster parents coming from different local government units, NGOs and DSWD Field Office attended the Regional Parents Education Congress (RPEC) held on September 25, 2007 at Luciana Convention Center this city.

The Family Week celebration is an event declared through Presidential Proclamation No. 60 signed on September 18, 1992, which seeks to strengthen family units and relationship through meaningful celebration and promotion of Filipino values.

This year's theme is "Makulay ang Buhay sa Pamilyang Matibay."

The message of Director Jabagat as delivered by Mr. Ramel Jamen, DSWD Caraga's Management Division Chief, spoke of two things about this year's theme a colorful life and a strong family. That life can be well and good if and when we have a strong family foundation.

The focus of this year's congress it to heighten awareness of the vital role of Filipino Family in building a healthy and upright citizenry. With this objective, inputs on rearing happy and healthy children, living effectively with adolescents, keeping a shild safe from abuse and challenges in parenting were shared to the participants. It is hoped that these inputs will help parents create a child-friendly atmosphere in the home and community and to enhance their parenting style particularly in dealing with 3-6 years old children and promote the rights and welfare of children with behavioral problems.

Ms. Jowena Mapanao-Hiponia, Director of Butuan Child Learning and Development School, Inc., DSWD social workers Ms. Marissa Garay and Ms. Wilma Geralla and Mr. Macky Mirafuentes of PopCom Caraga shared their knowledge during the occasion as resource persons. (PIA-13) [top]
