Roxas City (28 September) -- To determine the effectiveness and efficiency of the barangay justice system, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has been conducting the annual Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentive Award.
Capiz DILG Provincial Director Jenny Destua said that the annual search covers all the barangays nationwide.
In Capiz, barangay Salgan in Maayon town was recently adjudged as the provincial winner, Destua announced.
Said barangay is the official entry of the province to the Regional Search, Destua said, adding that the validation and evaluation of the provincial entry was already conducted by the Regional Search Committee.
According to him, the functionality of the Lupong Tagapamayapa in the barangays could certainly help to declog the court cases in court.
Destua said that the settlement of disputes at the barangay level is also a tool in maintaining the peace and order situation in the community with the help of law enforcement authorities like the Philippine National Police (PNP).
DILG Secretary Ronaldo Puno earlier cited the implementation of the community-based law enforcement initiatives of the PNP in the war against criminality.
He revealed that said initiatives include the COPS program which involves the establishment of barangay information networks, Kabayan centers and police community precincts, Barangay Human Rights Action Centers and the People's Action Team Responding On-Line (PATROL), among others. (PIA) [top]
