Navforsol joins Sorsogon mangrove planting activity

Legazpi City (28 September) -- The Naval Forces Southern Luzon (NAVFORSOL) has provided support to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) mangrove planting activity in Brgy. Diamante, Prieto Diaz town in Sorsogon last September 19.

The activity forms part of the "Trees for Life" project initiated by DENR in support to the Green Philippines Program (GPP) launched last August by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

AFP Commodore Alberto R. Araojo, NAVFORSOL commander, led the NAVFORSOL contingent that included Naval ROTC cadets to join the various agencies in Albay and Sorsogon and were able to plant a total of 7,000 mangrove propagules at the shorelines of Sabang Beach, Brgy. Diamante in Prieto Diaz town.

Last September 21, the same activity was conducted in Bagacay Beach in Barangay Bagacay this city with 3,000 mangrove propagules planted.

Commodore Araojo said this noble undertaking shows the continuing support of the Philippine Navy in particular and the Armed Forces of the Philippines in general in addressing environmental concerns besetting the country such as flooding, soil erosion, global warming and other natural calamities.
