LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (28 September) -- The Sangguniang Bayan of Tuba passed a measure establishing an alternative learning program for the youth due to the large number of out-of-school youth which need to be given attention to as they are the future of the society.

Referred to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee on Education, Ordinance Number 148 series 2007 was crafted entitled, "An ordinance establishing an alternative Learning program for the youth in the municipality of Tuba, Benguet and providing funds thereof."

The program aims to develop the OSYs' knowledge and skills through non-formal education, asses their progress and to make productive through knowledge gained in order to have a good future.

The ordinance states that a special committee to be chaired by Mayor Florencio Bentrez, will be organized to be responsible in designing an educational or skills program of instruction for special youth and dropouts from elementary, secondary to collegiate levels.

In order to sustain the program, a system will be formulated in assessing and evaluating its progress.

Seeing the importance of linkages, the committee will likewise coordinate with government and non-government institutions who are involved in non-formal education or those who could assist in the implementation of the program.

The SB will appropriate an annual fund of P100,000.00 for this program. (PIA) [top]
