Davao Norte gov impressed with newly-elected local officials

by RG Alama

Davao City (29 September) -- Governor Rodolfo del Rosario of Davao del Norte expressed his joy on the new efforts of newly elected-local officials of the different municipalities of the province particularly on their work to facelift their towns.

Governor del Rosario cited newly elected Carmen Municipal Mayor Marcelino Perandos who gave the sprawling frontage of the municipal hall a new look which is visible when passing along the national highway to Tagum City.

The Governor recalled that he met Mayor Perandos when he visited Carmen and was asked if they could borrow the Province's heavy equipment particularly the bulldozer during weekends. The Governor acceded only if they can pay for the fuel and the compensation for the driver. Paying for the fuel and the driver's salaries the town set to work on improving the frontage of Municipal hall which houses the park, plaza and the new transport terminal.

Del Rosario said he was impressed at the beautification done by the new Mayor. "Carmen looks very different now; it's more pleasing to the eye." The Governor said.

The Governor also like what he saw in Kapalong, which under the leadership of newly-elected Mayor Edgardo Timbol has removed and relocated trees planted along the road right-of-way, which has long posed hazards to passing traffic.

"Road-right of way is not supposed to be planted with trees. If they are struck by strong winds they can fall on the road causing accidents or traffic obstructions." The Governor said recounting an instance in which he was stuck on the road to Kapalong when a roadside tree fell on the highway obstructing traffic.

Governor del Rosario praised the efforts of the two Mayors, he said the newly-elected faces in the local Government are focused on doing new things and implementing new programs. "Ito ang maganda sa mga new faces" (this is what is good in the new faces) he said referring to the new set of officials elected in the different towns of Davao del Norte. (PIA) [top]
