Ifugao ready for barangay, SK elections

by Dan B. Codamon

LAGAWE, Ifugao (29 September) -- Despite the proposed postponement of the scheduled October 29 synchronized Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK), the province through the Commission on Election (COMELEC) here is all ready and set for this political exercise.

Provincial Election Supervisor Ricardo Bulintao intimated that as long as there is no order postponing the election, the filing of the certificates of candidacies of the different aspirants for the election of barangay and SK officials begin on September 29 and the COMELEC will be there to entertain and process them.

Presently, we are only consolidating the final list of all the voters for submission to our central office and also awaiting their final instructions but technically everything is ready if things go on as scheduled, Bulintao said.

Based on Comelec records, there are 98,473 voters for the barangay election and only 7,967 voters for the SK election coming from the 11 municipalities of the province.

Alfonso Lista municipality registered the highest number of voters for both the barangay and SK election with a total of 14,527 for the barangay and 1,349 for the SK while Hungduan has the least with 5,270 for the barangay and only 421 for the SK.

Bulintao strongly believes that the election will proceed as scheduled as the proposal of the House of Representatives to postpone it has been rejected by the Senate so there is no longer time for the House Bill to prosper.

One thing more, there is already a budget allotted for the conduct of this October 29 election so the activity will proceed, he said. (PIA Ifugao) [top]
