Tagalog News: Pamahalaan pinupursigi ang pagpapatupad ng international guidelines

Manila (1 October) -- Pinupursigi ng Pamahalaan ng bansa ang pagpapatupad ng international guidelines sa biotech trade na mangangasiwa sa import at export ng genetically modified (GM) products.

Ayon kay University of the Philippines National Sciences Research Institute (NSRI) director Dr. Ernelea Cao, gumagawa na ang Pamahalaan ng mga inputs sa Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) na kasalukuyang nagsasa-ayos ng mga guidelines na mangangasiwa sa international biotech trade.

Ang Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) ay nilikha noong 1963 ng Food and Agriculture Organization at ng World Health Organization sa ilalim ng United States upang maitaguyod ang food standards, at guidelines.

Sa kabila ng boluntaryong pagpapatupad ng proposed guidelines, malaking tulong din umano ito bilang good reference point lalo na sa mga bansang nagnanais na makapag-angkat ng biotechnology products.

Sa ilalim ng Codex guidelines mapipigilan ang pagkakaroon ng "illegal events" or contamination kung saan ipapatupad ang maayos na testing procedures, safety protocols at tolerance levels. (Abb/PIA 12) [top]
