UP Mindanao prof gets Datu Award for marketing education
Davao City (10 October) -- The Philippine Marketing Association -Davao Chapter (PMA-Davao) conferred its first Datu Award for `Outstanding Achievement in Marketing Education' to Dr. Sylvia B. Concepcion of the UP-Mindanao School of Management (UPMin-SOM). This is the first Datu Award given for marketing education in the fifteen years of the Awards.
In keeping with its theme, 'Meeting the challenges of globalization', PMA-Davao, in its statement, said that 'it recognized the important role that teachers in the academe play in encouraging and developing a world-class outlook among entrepreneurs and businesses'. In selecting Dr. Concepcion, it said 'teaching globalization to existing and future entrepreneurs requires a world-class marketing guru who is good in research as well as instruction.'
Dr. Concepcion was formerly the Dean of the UP-Mindanao School of Management and is presently the UPMin Vice-Chancellor for Administration. She has taught marketing for 28 years and has co-authored various journal articles such as 'Pluralistic Study of Supply Chains in Transitional Economies' and 'Differences in Quality Perceptions among Actors in the Mindanao Vegetable Supply Chain'; and research projects such as: 'Philippines in Regoverning Markets: The Rise of Supermarkets and their Effect on Small-Scale Producers'; while her interest in consumer behavior led to researches such as, 'Nanay, Tatay, Anak: Who Decides What To Buy in Davao City?' She is presently working with the UPMin-SOM team for an International Supply Chain Conference scheduled in July 9-12, 2008.
The other awardees are Marco Polo Davao for "Marketing Company of the Year", the AMS Group of Companies for "Outstanding Achievement in Export Marketing" and One Network Bank for "Outstanding Achievement in Marketing Management". PMA-Davao is headed by President Danny M. Te, while Freddie M. Serapio was Chairman of the 2007 Datu Awards. (UP Mindanao/PIA XI) [top]
