NDCC resets 3rd nationwide earthquake drill from Oct 10 to Oct 18
Tacloban City (October 10) -- The scheduled conduct of 2007 3rd Simultaneous Earthquake Drill on October 10 has been moved to October 18, Director Salvador Estudillo of the Office of Civil Defense Regional Office 8 informed.
Director Estudillo said that the members of the Regional Disaster Coordinating Council in Eastern Visayas will soon be informed where the ceremonial venue will be in the Region.
Earlier, Dr. Anthony T. Golez Jr., officer in charge of the National Disaster Coordinating Council, announced the conduct of the 2007 third nationwide simultaneous earthquake drill on October 10 in his memorandum to all Chairmen of Regional Disaster Coordinating Councils and to all the Regional Directors of the Office of Civil Defense Regional Centers.
NDCC OIC Golez informed that the nationwide simultaneous earthquake drill will be conducted at 9:00 o'clock in the morning. The ceremonial venue will be in a public school in Metro Manila.
He also revealed that the conduct of the third Nationwide Earthquake Drill coincide with the observance of the ASEAN Day. This activity will be the Philippine contribution to that important commemoration, Golez said.
Golez enjoined all local government units, local disaster coordinating councils, government agencies, private and public schools to conduct a similar activity in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
All Office of Civil Defense Regional Directors were also directed to report commitments of participation to the OCD Operations Division not later than October 1, 2007.
In this connection, Region 8 Office of Civil Defense Director Salvador Estudillo said that he has already informed the Regional Disaster Coordinating Council Members and the various local government units in the Region regarding the conduct of the simultaneous nationwide earthquake drill.
He also enjoined all those concerned to answer positively the call for the earthquake drill on October 18.
He added that the simultaneous nationwide earthquake drills are aimed at inculcating on the minds of the students and the community what must be done in cases of earthquake occurrences. Practice is still the best preparation and mitigating factor, Director Estudillo said. (PIA 8) [top]
